The uncovering and closure of an undercover gambling establishment within a dining establishment in Paris.
Friday, March 26, 2024In the wake of Île-de-France's latest lockdown measures and the closure of gaming establishments since October, law enforcement authorities have successfully dismantled an illicit gambling den located in the 10th arrondissement of Paris. Surprisingly enough, this underground gaming circle had been operating within the confines of a restaurant in the heart of the capital city.
Individuals apprehended in the midst of their actions
From Saturday to Sunday night, the police station in the Xth arrondissement of Paris conducted a raid on a restaurant situated on rue Sambre et Meuse.
Originally, law enforcement officers noticed that individuals were present beyond the confines of the establishment, thereby contravening the government's decree to cease business operations.
When the police arrived at the location, they found a group of twenty individuals engaged in a poker game. As a result of violating the curfew, each person was issued a fine of $135.
The woman, who was clearly involved in these underground poker games, acted as a croupier while the authorities apprehended and detained both restaurant managers, a man and a woman, for violating curfew regulations and putting others at risk.
A repeated offense observed in the past few weeks.
"Amidst the restrictions, curfew enforcement, and the shuttering of brick-and-mortar casinos, underground gambling establishments have proliferated."
In the past few weeks, not only in the provinces but also in the capital, law enforcement authorities have been actively shutting down multiple illegal gambling operations. With the implementation of lockdowns, curfews, and the temporary closure of physical casinos, underground gambling establishments have been on the rise.
The occurrence may be attributed to the players' lack of patience, as well as the overall impatience of the population towards an ongoing circumstance.
